This is the newest hotel on Con Dao owned by a young local couple. They’ve built six bungalows on the same beautiful stretch of beach as the Con Dao Resort. It’s small in scale and very cosy – with some unfortunate decorative choices. Still, a very appealing Con Dao option and one that imposes minimally on the beach.

Following Ha Long Bay, Con Dao Island has been chosen by the UK publishing company Lonely Planet to enter the top 10 best inlands in 2011 for romantic vacations.
Along with /Con Dao Island in the top 10 are Yemen’s Cocotra, Australia’s Torres Strait, Japan’s Yaeama, Guyana’s Illes du Salut, the RoK’s Ulleungdo, Panama’s San Blas, Taiwan’s Pengu, Honduras’ Bay and Hog island and Uganda’s Ssese.

Six Senses Con Dao to open in December

Six Senses Resorts and Spas, in conjunction with Indochina Land, will open the Six Senses Con Dao on Con Dao Island off the coast of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in December.

This is a five-star resort on the pristine island which lies one hundred miles off the southeastern coast of mainland Vietnam.

The Con Dao national park

Con Dao National Park is one of only two terrestrial and maritime National Parks in Vietnam which encompass both terrestrial and marine natural resources. Con Dao has largely escaped the exploitation and destructive fishing that have been the fate of other reefs in Vietnam and is considered one of the best examples of marine conservation in the country. Although historically the French wardens forced prisoners to collect live coral and turn it into lime, the coral reefs have survived.

Con dao Island Vietnam

Con Dao (also known as Poulo Condore) is an archipelago of 15 islands situated in the South China Sea, around 250 kilometres, or a 45-minute flight, from Ho Chi Minh City. The island is famed for its grizzly past: due its remoteness, the French used the main island of Con Son (the largest island in the group) to keep anti-colonial protestors prisoner. The South Vietnamese continued the tradition, sending political dissenters and activists to the 11 prisons which were also used in the American War. One third of the current 6,000 population are Vietnamese soldiers based in barracks dotted around the island.
